Happy Chinese New Year!!! While schools & work have been out for the week long national holiday, Wednesday was new year's eve with all of China welcoming in the Year of the Rabbit. We have seen some wonderful fireworks displays in the US...what we saw on Wednesday night was more than amazing! Fireworks started at about 6pm, they became constant (everywhere you looked in the sky!) about 11:30pm and lasted until maybe 2am...it was absolute craziness (and mildly unsafe!). Everyone set off fireworks - in the middle of the streets, on the sidewalks and off back porches! Some of the best (and clearly the loudest!) fireworks were right in front of our townhouse, if you don't count the piece of firecracker that fell from the sky and hit Andy (no injuries!).
We're so glad we stayed in Shanghai to experience Chinese New Years - yes for the fireworks but also for a little guy named Joseph. He is 'fostered' by a Belgium family here that was going out of the country for CNY - so through a variety of different contacts we ended up watching him for 10 days! What a precious little guy...so good natured & loving! It has been our blessing to be a part of his life for this past week!
